Each mark of a painting sets-up the available marks that can follow it. The number of possible marks never decreases but the spectrum shifts with each new mark. This painting began to take on very grid-like characteristics originating in the way I was using the brush.
At first this was unconscious and just coincided with my mood at the moment. However once I noticed it developing within the painting it influenced the process the rest of the way to its completion.
