There is something about painting clouds that invites abstraction. Even when painting from a photograph the forms require more attention to the feeling of the whole.
This actually makes it a great exercise for balancing a painting since the focus must remain peripheral rather than aiming for academic accuracy. The question for the painter of clouds is not "does this look like a cloud" but rather "does this feel like a cloud?" So something else this series taught me is that from every painting of a cloud a unique feeling emerges, even when its painted from the same cloud. |
